News from around town…

From the Administrator

As many of you have heard, Christa has decided to leave her position with the Town and move to Alberta to be closer to family. Her contributions to our community since she started with the Town in late August of 2015 cannot be appropriately acknowledged in the space I have but I’d like to highlight some of her accomplishments and try to explain how important she has been over the years.

Christa found grants where most people wouldn’t think to look – she always seemed to be able to find money for projects in obscure places and I’m confident she more than paid her wage in grants alone! I’ll admit, she’d sometimes come forward with an idea and I’d be a little hesitant because of the additional workload and our limited time but that never held her back. She’d always find a way to make it work. Christa is a very dedicated employee, keeping on top of our social media, even outside of work hours, and was fanatically enthusiastic about making Mossbank a better place.

We wouldn’t have day camp and many of the great events we’ve had over the years if Christa hadn’t spearheaded them. She made the Old Wives Lake Festival into a regional rather than local event. She provided a tremendous amount of administrative support to the Dare to Dream Lottery which has gone on to fund all kinds of recreation infrastructure in our community. She was also a huge part of arranging funding for the third ball diamond, just to name the most recent project she helped fundraise for, that Mayor Howe and others helped build this past summer.

Christa really created her own position here as I hadn’t planned for her to ever have the level of responsibility she has, but she’s ambitious and smart, picking up new skills with ease, and over time took on more and more challenging tasks. She doesn’t just do social media and answer phones – I regret that I haven’t dispelled this myth entirely (she’s been sure to let me know)! She asked to be enrolled in the LGA program, completed it on her own time from 2018-2019 and received her Standard Certificate as an Urban Administrator in December of 2019. At this point, she does much of the accounting and management in addition to her traditional responsibilities. She is more than qualified for the administrator job and we’ve been fortunate to have had her here, always but especially since she received her certification, as she could have left us for better pay and less stress!

I have absolute confidence that she’ll be successful in Alberta because she’s so very good at her job here! Filling these shoes will be a huge challenge and I’m confident we’ll notice she’s gone. Mossbank won’t be the same without you, Christa! You’ll be greatly missed, and it was a pleasure working with you!

    Mayors Musings

With 2022 coming to an end, I would like to thank all the many volunteers in our community who are too numerous to mention. Without your giving spirit so many things wouldn’t be accomplished. The town is losing Christa this month and we will really miss her and all her hard work. On behalf of the town thank you so much and we wish you all the best in the future.

With the new Centennial Drive expansion, day care, ball diamond, and walking path, I’m really looking forward to 2023 to see the town grow and prosper. During this Christmas season I wish everyone a peaceful and wonderful time. We are so blessed.

      FROM THE LIBRARY

Mossbank Library would like to give a heartfelt thank you to everyone who participated in our third annual online silent auction! Thank you to everyone from the donors, browsers, bidders, and eventual winners. Also, a big thank you to the library board members, family, and friends for all your hard work. It takes a village! We are overjoyed to announce that the library has made over $15,000! Thanks again for helping us to continue to serve the community. Merry Christmas everyone!

The Christmas tradition continued, and we had another amazing turn out at the annual tree lighting. It was so fun to see everyone at the library checking out all the auction items and visiting with Santa.

      FROM MOSSBANK CO-OP

A big thank you to Southland Co-op and Cornerstone Church for the Christmas family baskets. Also, we are happily working on our new venture of offering grain and fertilizer bins through the Mossbank branch. Please stop in to discuss any farm plans you may have.

      FROM THE TOWN

If you haven’t seen it yet, go and check out the town’s new website, mossbank.ca! With a lot of work and Tourism funding we were able to showcase our wonderful community with a modern website that is more user-friendly.

        FROM FURROWS & FAITH

Seeking night shift worker starting Jan 1, 2023, with courses paid for by the Villa. Please contact Cathy Ellertson at 354-7799.

The November Cash Calendar was a huge success, and the Christmas Supper with Leslie Presley (South Country’s local Elvis) was a lot of fun. Many local artists/crafters/friends donated objects for a silent auction which raised $2600.  The yearly Cash Calendar tickets are available for sale with the first draw Jan 15/23.  Thanks for all the contributions made to the Villa which help with the expenses. We are so appreciative of all who help us keep the Villa functioning for residents and staff.
